Not only does The Towers look
medieval with its twin turrets on the front but, on Thursday 12th
November, it was transported back in time. The Juniors were able to enjoy some
medieval magic when their hall was transformed into a castle and they were
visited by Peter Balanck. Peter is a pedlar from Medieval Days and he
arrived at the school to talk about and show over 50 artefacts including
weapons, armour, jewellery and many everyday objects from the Middle Ages
including a most valuable 700-year-old jar. He was so interesting and his
enthusiasm for the era was infectious. History really came to life.
The children, working in their
houses, also experienced tournament style archery, jousting and measuring
horse’s girths session, a smelling and concocting medieval pomander science
experiment and design a shield plus weaving, art and craft not forgetting
medieval dancing. Everyone, staff and children dressed up for the day and even
lunch had a medieval meal theme. It was a day of wonder, colour, surprises,
magic and fun. All in all a brilliant History Day.
