WELCOME TO THE ICT DEPARTMENT
THE TOWERS ICT MISSION STATEMENT
The ICT Department is part of a Catholic Christian Community and has a mission to promote the use of ICT, to enhance understanding, knowledge and appreciation of God’s universe. The Gospel is the most important communication of God to man who was called to proclaim its message. Modern technology furthers our opportunity to spread his message, learn about Christ and our faith.
INTRODUCTION
An important focus in ICT is to enable the students to access the technological world we are part of by giving them the opportunity to learn essential skills, and be able to apply them, independently, in an increasingly technological world.
ORGANISATION AND CURRICULUM
Years 7, 8 and 9 ICT are taught in mixed ability groups. All lessons are 40 minutes. Year 7 have 2 lessons a week. Year 8 have 3 lessons a week and Year 9 have 2 lessons a week.
The course we follow is the OCR Nationals First Award Level 2. As there is no ICT option at Key Stage 4, the students complete this qualification by the end of Year 9. Skills include: word processing, database, spreadsheets, desk top publishing, internet searching, file and folder management, safe working practices and video.
HOMEWORK
Due to the variation in software applications and operating systems outside school, homework is usually in the form of web research to prepare for the next lesson or online assessments which they take throughout the school year.
