Education for Life

All students in follow a timetabled course in EfL that includes careers education, sex and relationships education, drugs education, citizenship and study skills.

At The Towers all lessons are planned in accordance with our mission statement.
“As a Gospel centred community, we shall try to build a loving environment where pupils will be enabled to grow in the knowledge and love of God and of each other; where each individual will be equally valued; and where all may flourish, developing their own talents and valuing the unique gifts of those around them.”

Our aim is that all our pupils are provided with Sex and Relationship Education and Drugs Education which reflects our ethos and values whilst empowering our girls to make good informed decisions for their future well-being, free of exploitation and leading to fulfilled lives. We aim to provide the girls with accurate knowledge within a framework that promotes the fundamental goodness of all of God’s creation.

Enterprise, work related learning and career education and guidance are studied through a series of activities and experiential learning situations which explore real issues that may be faced as adults. Work experience forms an important part of this and all students are encouraged to participate in a week’s placement at the end of Year 11. There is also the opportunity to be part of the management group running the school’s Fairtrade tuckshop.

We have a large, dedicated careers room which is open during lunchtimes and, by arrangement, after school. In addition to reference books and brochures for sixth form colleges, it also houses computers and runs a variety of programs including Kudos which enables students to use on line facilities to match themselves to career ideas.

Our EfL programme is broad and balanced. We are well supported by a wide range of outside speakers from a cross section of society including our Police Liaison Officer, the Samaritans, health care experts and financial experts. An example of the senior EfL programme can be viewed by clicking here.
