Pastoral Care

Pastoral care at The Towers is multifaceted due to the fact that The Towers genuinely is a community and as such there is an expectation that all members will care for each other. Posters around the school describe the rules for 'Living Happily at The Towers' and these are simple instructions to respect and care for each other. This care begins in the Junior School where Year 6 children are encouraged to act as playground buddies and lunch-time table leaders and is then continued in the Senior School where Year 11 girls are given the responsibility of being a Form Prefect and looking out for the girls in their class group. New pupils are assigned a buddy to look after them during their first few weeks at The Towers.

Each Senior class has two girls from Year 11 (usually Prefects) attached to the class a teacher or sometimes two attached to the class who is responsible for any pastoral issues which arise and there is also a head of each Key Stage who is able to offer additional support. For Key Stages 1 and 2, Mrs Hanks, for Key Stage 3, Mrs Paull and for Key Stage 4, Miss Garlick. In addition there are two Chaplains who are available to lend a listening ear. Mrs Green for the Seniors and Sister Frances for the Juniors. However, the pupils are all advised that they can speak to any member of staff should they feel a need to talk to an adult and often it is the lunch-time supervisor to whom they may turn.

One valuable and unique aspect of the care and one which cannot be over-estimated is the presence of The Sisters of The Blessed Sacrament whose home is The Towers and who offer support and care to both staff and pupils. Bullying and unkindness are not tolerated and are dealt with as soon as they are apparent. The definition of bullying in our antibullying policy came from the pupils themselves.

We ask that parents keep us informed about any family matters which may impinge on a child's well-being so that staff are aware and can ensure that there is an abundance of TLC.

We believe that happy children learn best and we aim to do everything in our power to make The Towers School a happy place.
