G.C.S.E Results

We are very proud of our GCSE results as they represent hard work on the part of both staff and students. Girls generally achieve GCSE grades approximately two grades higher than bench-line tests conducted on entry would have indicated. The latest results are from 2011 when 100% of the girls achieved at least 5 GCSEs at A* to C including English and Maths. These results placed us at the top of all tables for West and East Sussex. Please look at the table of the results of the individual girls and remember that they achieved these results in addition to all of the other commitments they had. For those of you who like figures I hope that you will be as excited as we are by the fact that 61% of our pupils gained A* or A in mathematics whereas the national figure is only 16.5% and this is only one example in one subject!

KS3 Results

At the end of Year 9 we use externally written papers in maths and science to support our judgments on progress and attainment. In all other subjects the teachers make an assessment on the progress within the key stage through internally set examinations and assessments.

KS2 Results

At The Towers we use externally written but internally marked KS2 tests as at KS3 to support teacher assessments. However we do not waste vast amounts of teaching time preparing for these tests as once the girls move into the Senior School they sit a MidYIS test - This Middle Years Information System, is one of a series of monitoring systems written and administered by the Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring (CEM) based at Durham University. It provides a baseline assessment and value added system for years 7, 8 and 9 for secondary schools in England. It assesses a student's potential and their strengths and weaknesses in vocabulary, maths, non-verbal and skills. MidYIS can provide a good indication of future academic performance and is used at The Towers to help inform the teaching and learning process. The CEM Centre’s calculation of our value-added score takes place at the end of Key Stage 4. The commitment to learning of our pupils and the dedication of their teachers means our value-added score is consistently in the top 10% of all schools.

Prior To Key Stage 2

Children in Years 2 and 6 (end of Key Stages 1 and 2) take the Interactive Computerised Assessment System (InCAS) test also developed by the CEM centre - This adaptive, modular test focuses on four key learning areas: reading, spelling, general maths and mental arithmetic. For each component of the test, results are presented as an ability age, comparable to the child's actual age and considers their particular attitudes to learning. The specificity of the personalised feedback provides teachers with the opportunity to design and deliver lessons tailored to the particular needs of the children in the class. Our aim is to track the progress of the children throughout their time with us using the InCAS test. Over the course of Key Stage two, we expect children to improve in each area by six years. Many of our pupils exceed this benchmark.
